Catherine Mulligan’s Paintings

When I was in Los Angeles visiting a friend, we stopped into the Des Pair bookstore on the last day they were open. Intrigued often by shiny and pink things, I caught a glimpse of Catherine Mulligan’s book propped up on a display; the I’s were dotted with stars. Des Pair was her publisher for this coffee table book and I knew I would be taking it home with me. I haven’t loved an artist this much since David Rappeneau (who is banned from instagram what a fucking tragedy). Anyway, I sat on a couch in a nearby lingerie store flipping through the pages with my jaw in my lap while my friend tried things on. Her subject matter is primarily women in lamé and short-shorts, but then theres the McMansions, fully lit but with no one in them, bankrupted fast food joints after 3AM, internet screens.
