In the spirit of community, I want to share this…

Before now, I had never heard of J. G. Ballard’s What I Believe. But on December 8th, 2014, at 1:49am, I wrote a private blog post titled I Believe (written below) addressed to an ex-love.

I know the exact date and time because the post is still sitting on my old Tumblr blog, more than ten years later.

It’s not a great poem, nor is it written in my current voice (I wrote it over a decade ago, after all), but there’s something poetic about stumbling across other manifestos on belief years after writing my own.

I BelieveDecember 8th, 2014, 1:49am

I believe in masturbation.

I believe in manifestation.

I believe in hard work.

I believe in the Universe.

I believe in free will and free thought.

I believe that God is whatever you want it to be.

I believe in rain on my skin.

I believe in your hands in mine, in our fingers entwined.

I believe in sand on my feet, in the sound of your heartbeat.

I believe in the words that we don't speak.

I believe in true love's first kiss.

I believe in the power of touch.

I believe in you inside me.

I believe in how healing sex can be.

I believe in creamy thighs and tear-filled eyes.

I believe in you and me.

I believe that good love can set us free.

I believe.

I believe.

I believe.
